Immigration Procedure

After terminal entry and airline check-in procedures, all international passengers must clear immigration. Here are the required documents for Immigration:

  • Valid passport
  • Visa (if applicable)
  • Traveling abroad from India, check visa requirements here: https://boi.gov.in/boi/
  • Boarding pass

Immigration Process

Present your passport, visa and boarding pass to the immigration officer. The officer will verify your travel documents, ask a few questions about your travel plans, and stamp your passport.

Post immigration clearance passengers will head for their security screening.

Security Screening

Customs Declaration

As a departing passenger, customs declarations are typically not required unless:

  • You are carrying restricted, valuable, or high-value items such as jewelry, large sums of foreign currency, or electronics.
  • You are transporting goods subject to export restrictions.

If applicable, please visit the Customs Declaration counter to avoid any issues during your journey. Make sure to review the list of prohibited and restricted items prior to arriving at the airport.

Immigration Procedure

Indian Nationals

All Indian nationals do need to proceed at the “Indian Passport Holder” counter at the immigrations. Present your passport and boarding pass to the security officer for passport stamping and clearance.

NOTE: Foreign nationals arriving for the first time in India need to register their Biometric (Facial scan and Fingerprints) details. You can register the same at the Biometric Kiosks at arrival piers or at the immigration counter. - Proceed at the “Foreign Passport Holder”

Foreigners of Indian Origin / OCI card holder

After verification by the Bureau of Immigration, the approved passenger will receive an email or SMS to proceed.

Proceed to Baggage Claim

  • After clearing immigration, follow the airport signage directing you to the baggage claim area.
  • Locate your baggage belt: Check the flight information display screens to find the assigned baggage belt for your arriving flight. This information is also provided onboard by the airline staff.
  • Identify and collect your baggage from the designated conveyor belt.

Proceed to Customs

After collecting your bags, proceed to Customs to get your goods cleared under the Green or Red Channel.

  • Green & Red Channel: The baggage clearance at the major International Airports in India consists of two channels for clearance Green and Red. Proceed to the Green Channel if you do not have any dutiable goods to declare and the Red Channel if you have dutiable goods to declare.
  • Wrong Declaration of Goods: Non-declaration or wrongful declaration of the dutiable goods may result in confiscation of goods, fine or penalty. Serious offences like attempting to smuggle Gold, without declaration may lead to arrest & prosecution.
  • Customs Information: The Indian Revenue Department has specified a list of items, including the size that can now be imported duty-free as part of the baggage.
