On this World Environment Day, we proudly highlight our proactive measures to reduce plastic usage wherever possible. Join us in our collective endeavour to create a greener future by reducing plastic waste. Together, let's make a lasting positive impact.
In 1972, the UN General Assembly designated 5 June as World Environment Day (WED). It is the global platform celebrated by millions of people across the world to promote awareness of our environmental challenges such as air pollution, plastic pollution, illegal wildlife trade, sustainable consumption, sea-level increase, and food security, among others.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day. The theme for World Environment Day on 5 June 2023 will focus on solutions to plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution. It is a reminder that people’s actions on plastic pollution matter. The steps governments and businesses are taking to tackle plastic pollution are the consequence of this action.
As per UNEP, more than 430 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year worldwide, half of which is designed to be used only once. Of that, less than 10 per cent is recycled. An estimated 19-23 million tonnes end up in lakes, rivers and seas annually. That is approximately the weight of 2,200 Eiffel Towers altogether. With available science and solutions to tackle the problem, governments, companies and other stakeholders must scale up and speed up actions to solve this crisis. This underscores the importance of this World Environment Day in mobilizing transformative action from every corner of the world.
To support environmental protection, Mission Lifestyle For Environment (LiFE) was introduced as an India-led global mass movement for “mindful and deliberate utilization” to protect and preserve the environment. Mission LiFE seeks to channel the efforts of individuals and communities into a global mass movement of positive behavioural change under the following 7 themes i.e. Save Energy, Save Water, Say No to Single Use Plastic, Adopt Sustainable Lifestyle, Reduce Waste, Adopt Healthy Lifestyles, Reduce E-Waste.
At DIAL, Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development are important components of the overall planning and implementation of business activities. We have developed robust policies, governance and procedures to achieve our commitment to “Care for Environment”. As a part of global engagement on World Environment Day, at DIAL, every year we conduct awareness programs through communication, creative displays and tree plantations.
