All Entry and Boarding Gates at T2 & T3 to get DigiYatra by March end

March 1, 2023

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), a GMR Airport Infrastructure Limited-led consortium responsible for operating and managing the IGI Airport, is constantly at work to make the airport journey convenient for people. In efforts to make air travel smooth and hassle-free for passengers, DIAL introduced DigiYatra, a platform that uses facial recognition technology to verify a traveller’s identity, in the previous year in 2022. After its roaring success, Delhi Airport is now planning to introduce DigiYatra at other terminals too. Along these lines, on March 1, 2023, DIAL announced that all entry and boarding gates at T2 and T3 will become DigiYatra-enabled by the end of this month.

What is DigiYatra?

DigiYatra is a digital platform that makes the process of air travel more convenient and efficient for passengers by using facial recognition technology. The initiative offers faster mobility to boarding gates, hassle-free travel, enhanced security, and dedicated gates while being completely contactless. Delhi Airport is witnessing a gradual increase in DigiYatra users since its launch on December 1, 2022, by Civil Aviation Minister, Sri Jyotiraditya Scindia. At present, around 2,500 passengers are using DigiYatra at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 3 every day.

Why use DigiYatra?

After the successful installation of the DigiYatra infrastructure at Terminal 3 and Terminal 2, around 40 per cent of the domestic travellers will enjoy a seamless entry into the terminal, security check area, and boarding gates. They will be able to save around 15-25 minutes of their time from the entry gate to security checks during peak hours as they will only need to spend a few seconds at every touch point. Also, they will be benefited by using the exclusive DigiYatra channel for entry to the Pre-Embarkation Security Check (PESC) area.

Speaking about these developments, the CEO of DIAL, Mr Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said, “Delhi Airport was among the first Indian airports to roll out the facial recognition system-based DigiYatra. DigiYatra was launched on December 1, 2022, to ensure passengers get a seamless and world-class experience at the airport. Since its launch, it has significantly reduced the time spent by passengers for entry into terminals, security check areas, and boarding gates. We are also encouraged to see the gradual growth in passenger numbers using DigiYatra. At present, around 2,500 passengers are using DigiYatra every day, and we aim to ensure that more and more passengers avail of the service. Using DigiYatra will ensure that passengers get ample leisure time to spend with their friends or family at the airport.”

How can you use DigiYatra?

All air passengers have to do to avail of these benefits is to register their face on the DigiYatra app and validate the same with the Aadhaar repository before coming to the airport. Upload travel barcodes and share them with the airport. This will save them from getting into a queue for entry into the terminal for security checks. Learn more about the enrollment process in detail here.

Passengers experiencing a problem while registering on DigiYatra can approach DIAL’s dedicated and exclusive call centre at 0124-4797311/0120-6838400 for assistance. Besides, DIAL also has set up a helpdesk at terminals 2 and 3.

Is using DigiYatra safe?

The passengers need not worry as the shared credentials on the DigiYatra app remain on their mobile phones. It is not saved anywhere else, as DigiYatra is designed on the concept of Privacy by Design. Also, all details offered by passengers for the travel get automatically purged soon after the flight takes off.

The DigiYatra software used in Delhi is one of the most advanced ones. It can support seamless entry of Passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRM) and kids into the terminal. DIAL is also working on making T1 entry gates at Terminal 1 DigiYatra-enabled. It is likely to happen from April 2023.
